Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) – I was anticipating a truly awful movie, so from that perspective, it exceeded expectations. It was meh to okay, not good by any means, but not horrible, with a surprisingly coherent (if thin) story, and an exceptionally loose grasp of physics (far worse than is even typical of the genre). Patrick Wilson holds the film together, IMO. He and Jason Momoa make a compelling “odd couple.” There were a few decent one-liners from Momoa; can’t help but wonder how many were unscripted (I don’t mean that in a bad way, some of them were quite clever). I understand they were trying to minimize Amber Heard’s role (and due to the strike, there was no opportunity for reshoots if they were going to keep their release date), but it made the moments when she did pop up feel really odd and out of sync. And as usual, Temuera Morrison steals every scene he is in. One mid-credit stinger, nothing after that.
