Fall 2023 Preview

It’s not uncommon for this to happen, but post-August/pre-November pickings are pretty slim at the theater, unless you like horror. (I do not partake; I need sleep!) But there are a few that I’m looking forward to:

  • Gran Turismo (now playing) – Actually started last weekend, but we haven’t seen it yet. Unless it’s really awful, I can think of worse ways to spend 2 hours at the theater than with Orlando Bloom and David Harbour.
  • A Haunting in Venice (Sept 15) – This is the third Poirot film adaptation for Kenneth Branagh. We have enjoyed both of the previous ones, so we will definitely catch this one (though it looks pretty creepy.)
  • Expend4bles (Sept 22) – Not sure if we’ll see it or not, but the cast list was certainly interesting.
  • The Creator (Sept 29) – “From the director of Rogue One” was THE only information I’ve had about this one for months. Finally saw a preview a couple of days ago. Basically “I, Robot” if it got farther into the conflict than the Will Smith movie. The visuals are stunning, though, with a great cast, and we liked Rogue One, so we’ll probably see it (especially since it is PG-13).
  • She Came to Me (Sept 29) – This is a smaller indie-type film with Peter Dinklage, Anne Hathaway, and Marisa Tome. Something of a rom-com, but likely much more dramatic than it is currently advertising in the previews.
  • Carlos (Sept 29) – Documentary about Carlos Santana. I really like documentaries in general, especially those about musicians for some reason. I’m hoping to pick this one up at The Tara.

SPECIAL NOTE: Though there isn’t much coming out that I’m interested in seeing, the studios are also re-releasing films from earlier this year, since their schedule is a bit thin, especially with the strike going on. So if you missed anything earlier this year, keep your eyes open; it may be coming back to theaters. They’re also throwing in some “golden oldies,” like Goonies and Back to the Future. My current pick, if you missed it: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
