Movie Talk,  Previews

So in case you haven’t seen Captain Marvel, the “star of the show” (kidding, sort of) is Goose. Yes, Goose, as in Maverick’s rio from Top Gun. (Y’all got that reference, right?) Now, most people think that Goose is a normal Earth feline, but nope. According to the movie, Goose is:

Kree Computer: Species: Flerken. Threat: High.

[At-Lass clamps a muzzle on Goose]

Nick Fury: It’s a cat, not Hannibal Lecter.

As opposed to Nick Fury himself, who the same computer describes as:

Kree Computer: Species: Human Male. Threat: Low to None.

Nick Fury: That thing’s clearly busted.

So what exactly is a flerken? It’s… well… it looks like a cat, but it’s definitely…. not. You’ll just have to watch the movie! Or cheat and watch the YouTube clip. “Mother-flerken!” (Actually, I can’t help but hear this clip from I, Robot in my head every time I see Fury cooing at Goose! LOL)

So now you know what a flerken is. But have you seen the trailer for the upcoming movie The Marvels? It is scheduled to premiere in November, and while Captain Marvel isn’t in our top 5 (and probably not even our top 10) favorite MCU films, it does hold a special place in our hearts thanks to Goose and Coulson. (Captain Marvel came out just as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was finishing its run; IYKYK.) So why am I excited to see The Marvels? First off, we really did enjoy the Ms. Marvel series on Disney+. It’s generally less serious and more “comic book-y” than other Marvel movies and shows, but it was also fun and different. It will be a really great payoff to finally see Kamala Khan interacting with her hero.

But most importantly, the trailer features kittens. Behold the GIF:

Entertainment Weekly has a really fun article talking about having the cats – especially the kittens – on set. Goose is also prominently featured in the trailer, and the article implies that she plays a rather prominent role in the new film.

Dare we hope that the kittens are actually baby flerkens? I have my heart set on it! To the point that I have officially dubbed them “flerkittens.” Here’s hoping!
