Highlight Reel – Nov 10-16, 2024

Sounds like several of you enjoyed last week’s update, so I will definitely try to keep it going. But as predicted, the “Weekly Spotlight” title didn’t last long. I didn’t love it, and it kept niggling at me. I really did like the Highlight Reel title that I briefly used for monthly updates (didn’t even make it a year for those), and I finally just decided that it really is the best title/descriptor for the purpose here, so it’s been recycled and given a new graphic. Special thanks to AJ for being my sounding board! I do think I’m going to split out the nails into their own weekly post, though. Not that there were any new nails this week, but that’s a completely separate issue! If there’s something else you’d like to hear about during these little recaps, let me know.

Re-Watch of the Week

Song of the Week
Hey, this is a judgment-free music zone! It’s fun and it’s catchy, and it makes me smile (in spite of the loss of a group member last month), just as any good Song of the Week should do. Good lord, they were just babies! I hadn’t ever seen the video until now. (Despite being from the MTV generation, I don’t watch many music videos these days.) This was 13 years ago, though I didn’t really hear any of their music until fairly recently, despite a friend’s daughter being completely *obsessed* with Harry Styles at the height of their popularity. She’s the only reason I knew who he was when he started trying to break into acting.
Other “Songs of the Day” this week (no, there isn’t necessarily one every day!)
- “Honey, I’m Good” by Home Free (a cappella cover of the Andy Grammer song)
- “La Isla Bonita“, by Madonna
- “Touch the Sky“, from Disney’s Brave, by Julie Fowlis
Headlines, Highlights, and Lowlights

- Saw two new movies at the theater this week: Here (review) and an advance screening of Red One (review)
- One thing about doing these weekly reviews is that it is forcing me to get my movie reviews up in a timely fashion if I want to link them here, which I do! Not a bad side effect, I must say, given how many of my summer movies never got reviewed or even mentioned. Yes, I have a list. I’ll work on it.
- Still clicking through Black-ish. I think we have about 40 episodes left. Probably looking at either Schitt’s Creek or The Good Place as our next binge watch, but I’m open to suggestions!
- Walked 10,000 steps on Wednesday, Nov 13
- Have been enjoying my RingConn Generation 2 (no affiliation); will give a full review probably next week sometime. Did have to charge it this week after 8 days; it took about an hour.
- Still doing well on water intake; got at least 56 oz (7 glasses, 1.6 L) per day
- I’m able to wear my beloved Georgia Tech windbreaker again, which is thrilling after it being too small for several years now.
- Finally bought new bras and underwear! Replacing an entire wardrobe is expensive. I’m still wearing quite a bit of stuff that is simply too big, but I hardly ever see anyone besides Steve, so I can generally deal with it. The underthings were getting sad, though. And while I wouldn’t mind thrifting some better fitting clothes, finding petite plus-size thrifted clothing is exceedingly difficult (I have been – and will continue to be – in plus sizes for the foreseeable future). I am doing some “shopping in my closet” and bringing some of my old clothes back into play, but I’m oddly in between sizes at the moment. I think there’s a seasonal mismatch; most of the clothes that fit me at my current size are summer clothes, and it’s starting to get chilly here.
Coming Soon

- Wicked and Gladiator II both finally hit theaters
