Highlight Reel – Nov 24-30, 2024

We came back from Thanksgiving a little earlier than expected (everything is fine; no drama, I promise!), so I was able to get this published “on time” after all.

Gladiator IIFull Review
  • Saw two new movies at the theater: Wicked (excellent! must see!) and Gladiator II (Denzel Washington was amazing, everything else just okay)
  • We had hoped to finish watching The Penguin with Luke before heading out of town for Thanksgiving, but plans shifted a bit, so that will have to wait until he gets home after finals this coming week. We did catch the second episode of Dune: Prophecy when it aired Sunday night. Many of our regular network shows were off this week or are on hiatus until next year. Only Night Court, The Irrational, and NCIS: Origins had new episodes this week.
  • We did introduce my parents and Luke to High Potential while we were there over Thanksgiving. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.
  • I actually picked up Children of Dune after putting it down several months ago. I really thought I was farther along than I am, but I am determined to finish it before the end of the year. (I hoped before the end of the month, but I’m still only at 40%, and I only have 90 minutes left in November, as of the time I am typing this sentence.)
  • My father-in-law Tony was able to join us for Thanksgiving this year. I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since we saw him last. He seems to be doing really well. We really do need to get down there for a visit!
  • My best friend from high school was visiting her husband’s family in the Atlanta area. They live in California now, and I haven’t seen her in several years (maybe 5?). My parents were very understanding when we had to cut our visit with them short so I could be back in time for coffee with her on Friday before they head back to the west coast.
  • I bought some new jeans and a new shirt. It’s nice to have something that actually fits! Everything I currently own is too big or too small at the moment. That said, I don’t want to spend a bunch of money on new clothes that hopefully won’t fit in a couple more months, so just a smattering of things that fit will have to do for now.
  • Christmas shopping is nearly complete! Just a couple of things left, and I’m all done.
  • Georgia Tech managed to drag UGA through 8 overtimes, but they eventually beat us. But we held our own and did well, including leading at the half (instead of getting clobbered like usual), so we’ll take it.

Coming Soon

  • A reminder that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew starts on Tuesday on Disney+ (I know I mentioned that last week as well).
  • I think Moana 2 is next up on our “to be seen at the theater” list, but I’m not sure we’ll get to that before Christmas week. Maybe we’ll take my parents, since I know they saw the first one with us as well.
  • No Drunk Christmas Unicorns yet, but we’re hoping they’ll make an appearance this week.
  • And if I’m really lucky, we’ll manage a new Christmas tree sometime this coming week, too.
