Percy Jackson and the Olympians – Season 1

Percy Jackson and The Olympians – Yes, it is as good as the reviews say! I read only the first book, and that was ages ago, way back when Luke was in pre-school, I think. I also remember very little about the movie (which I only saw once), so watching the series was largely like experiencing the story for the first time. They have some impressive performances by the young cast, and the effects are an appropriate level of realistic while keeping in mind that the show is targeted at kids. It has the usual problem that all productions have when utilizing tweens and teens: if you have to go back and do reshoots, they’ve probably grown or changed pretty significantly in the few months since the original scenes were filmed, so cutting from one camera angle to the next can be a little like watching people grow and shrink, but for the most part, it was as seamless as it can be with kids that age (and I really do like that they’re using kids more or less the right ages). None of the episodes dragged at all, though some were “meatier” than others in terms of how much story you got. I haven’t read any of the rest of the books, so I don’t know how prominently or not Zeus is featured in later stories, but losing Lance Reddick will be a blow to any future seasons. And I do hope there are future seasons!
