The Legend of the Drunk Christmas Unicorns

[Said in her best Lion King Rafiki voice] IT IS TIME!!
Wait, oops. I was going to link to my post(s) about the Drunk Christmas Unicorns from last year, but it looks like I only mentioned them in the (old monthly) Highlight Reels, not in their own post. How silly of me! To catch you up, in case we are not connected on Facebook, this is the story of how me posting about the Drunk Christmas Unicorns became a thing.
In 2022, I posted this to Facebook a few days before Christmas:

I had NO IDEA when I posted this that it would be come a phenomenon among my friends. Everyone got *such* a kick out of it! I posted a few more pictures until they departed just after the new year, but several people asked me if I would please post them again the next year. As Thanksgiving 2023 rolled around, I promised daily pictures, but I think my neighbors gave up on trying daily to reposition them, so they would “stay still” for several days in a row, resulting in new pictures a few times a week instead. But again, everyone was laughing and joking and really seemed to be enjoying them. This was the resulting collage image for 2023:

This year (2024), I remembered to post The Harbinger of the Drunk Christmas Unicorns when it appeared in early October. Behold!

Skele-Corn actually appeared for the first time in 2023, but it didn’t dawn on me to take a picture until this year (2024). Skele-Corn actually stuck around well into November, and we didn’t really expect the sleigh team until after Thanksgiving, but once December hit, I was starting to get a little worried that the neighbors had given up on them since they wouldn’t “behave.” When they finally did appear (top photo), I even wrote a little song:
(To the tune of “Up on the Housetop,” with apologies to Gene Autry….)
Out on the front lawn, unicorns fall.
Soon they’ll annoy poor Santa Claus!
Down on the grass after lots to drink,
Oh, what will the neighbors think?!
Oh ho ho, they’re up for now,
Oh ho ho, but soon they’ll bow.
Out on the front lawn, we all know,
Wait a little while, and down they’ll go!
Y’all, my friends were SO EXCITED!! It is hilarious and heartwarming, and I absolutely love that so many people are delighted by my silly little pictures. Sometimes, it really is the simple things that bring joy. Thus the 2024 escapades of the 2024 Drunk Christmas Unicorns have begun. Let’s see what sort of antics they will manage this year.
I’ll be posting collages of the week’s images to my weekly Highlight Reel posts, but I will do a final post of the year to recap all of the pictures. Wishing you a happy and joyous holiday season filled with lots of smiles! With love, from the Official Photographer of the Drunk Christmas Unicorns
