The Holdovers

The Holdovers (2023) – Very good (but not an exceptional) example of the genre. Da’Vine Joy Randolph was the standout and should definitely be in contention for an Oscar, though I’m quite impressed with Dominic Sessa’s film debut. He could definitely hold his own with both Randolph and Paul Giamatti, which is no small thing. I’m not sure how all of the performances can be good to great yet I can still be just so-so about the movie. (I mean, it’s good, but it’s not fantastic.) And the good thing about filming in Boston is that there are definitely areas where nothing has changed since the 1970s!
